The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will produce Nigeria’s next president in the 2027 general elections.
Makinde’s statement comes amid ongoing leadership tensions and internal divisions within the opposition party, which have deepened concerns about factionalisation.
The PDP has recently been split between rival blocs associated with Makinde and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Despite the reported leadership tussle and several court rulings, Wike has maintained that the party remains united and that no faction exists within its structure.
Speaking at the 103rd National Executive Committee meeting of his-backed PDP faction held on Monday in Abuja, Makinde expressed confidence that the party would reclaim power at all levels in 2027.
“We should write it down. This gathering will produce House of Assembly members, will produce House of Representatives members, will produce Senators, will produce Governors, and will produce the next President,” he said.
The governor insisted that the PDP remains strong and capable of returning to national leadership despite its internal challenges.
