The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to screen former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday as the party’s sole presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to reports, members of the screening panel include former Vice-President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State governor Jonah Jang, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi, among others.
The development comes days after the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, announced that Jonathan had successfully registered as a member of the PDP during the party’s fresh digital registration exercise directed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Meanwhile, the Seyi Makinde-backed PDP faction also disclosed that it would begin screening aspirants seeking elective positions across the country.
According to the party, the exercise will involve:
- 748 House of Representatives aspirants
- 198 senatorial aspirants
- 112 governorship aspirants
- 2,122 State House of Assembly aspirants
The screenings are scheduled to commence on Tuesday in various states nationwide.
In a statement posted on the party’s official Facebook page on Sunday, the PDP confirmed that one presidential aspirant would also appear before the screening committee.
