Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed 39-year-old Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, replacing Is-haq Oloyede after the expiration of his tenure in July 2026.

The Segun Aina JAMB appointment was announced in a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, Aina will officially assume office after Oloyede completes his second term as registrar on July 31, 2026.

Onanuga described the incoming registrar as a respected academic and technology expert with strong experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and public sector reforms.

Professor Aina studied Computer Systems Engineering at University of Kent before earning both a master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a doctorate in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

The Segun Aina JAMB announcement further highlighted his role as a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. During his National Youth Service, he worked with JAMB, where he gained early experience in admissions systems and examination processes.

Aina also belongs to several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, IEEE and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

The presidency said Tinubu expects the new registrar to use his expertise to strengthen the examination body and build on reforms introduced under Oloyede’s leadership.

Do you think technology-driven reforms can improve Nigeria’s examination system further?
