The Plateau State Police Command has arrested 25 suspects during a targeted operation against drug-related activities in Jos, recovering cannabis, controlled drugs and other prohibited substances.
According to a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the operation took place on Saturday and involved a joint team of detectives led by the Officer-in-Charge of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU). The team worked alongside personnel from the Anglo-Jos Division, Anti-Cybercrime and Narcotic Unit, and the Monitoring Unit.
The security operation focused on identified drug hotspots at Old Airport Junction and Fwavei Junction in Jos. Police said the locations had become known centres where criminal elements allegedly sell and distribute cannabis, illicit substances, controlled drugs and other banned products.
During the raid, officers moved into the targeted areas and successfully apprehended 25 suspects. The drug crackdown also led to the recovery of several exhibits, including suspected narcotics and controlled substances. Authorities confirmed that all recovered items remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The Plateau State Police Command stated that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, disrupt criminal networks and improve public safety across the state. The command added that further investigations would determine the involvement of the arrested individuals and guide subsequent legal actions.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, praised the officers who participated in the operation. He commended their courage, professionalism and teamwork, noting that the successful raid reflected the strong collaboration among various units within the command.
The Plateau State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling drug-related crimes and maintaining law and order throughout the state.
