The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kwara State has assured parents and guardians that corps members participating in the ongoing orientation programme are safe and well catered for at the scheme’s temporary camp in Ilorin.
Speaking with journalists on Wednesday, Kwara NYSC Coordinator, Mr Onifade Joshua, said the temporary orientation camp located within Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, provides a peaceful and secure environment for corps members undergoing the 2026 Batch B Orientation Course.
According to him, the camp currently accommodates about 2,000 corps members, adding that the relocation from the permanent orientation camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area, was influenced by concerns and misinformation regarding security in the area.
Joshua emphasised that the welfare and safety of corps members remain a top priority for both the federal and state governments. He noted that authorities have put adequate measures in place to ensure participants enjoy a productive and memorable service year.
“These young people are the future of Nigeria,” he said.
“We know that it is God who keeps us alive, but in our own capacity, both the federal and state governments have put measures in place to ensure the safety of corps members, in order for them to have a memorable and positive service year,” he added.
The NYSC orientation camp coordinator explained that the scheme focuses on orientation activities, primary assignments and personal development programmes. He said corps members are encouraged to participate in skills acquisition initiatives designed to equip them with practical knowledge for future careers and entrepreneurship.
Joshua also disclosed that the scheme takes extra steps to ensure transparency whenever corps members travel on official engagements. According to him, parents are informed whenever necessary, while participants are released early enough to complete their journeys safely.
He reiterated that the NYSC orientation camp remains secure and conducive, assuring stakeholders that the scheme will continue to prioritise the wellbeing and development of corps members throughout their service year.
