Nigeria State Police Bill has sparked fresh calls for transparency, with stakeholders urging the Senate to publish the full draft currently under consideration. They argue that the Nigeria State Police Bill should be publicly available because it could reshape policing, federalism, and civil liberties.
Angel Lawson, governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Rivers State, questioned why the bill remains difficult to access. He said citizens, civil society groups, and other stakeholders deserve the opportunity to examine its contents before lawmakers take further action.
Furthermore, Lawson stressed that legislative transparency strengthens public trust and encourages meaningful participation in democratic processes. He urged the Senate to release the latest version of the bill, including committee reports and amendments, saying reforms of such importance must be open to public scrutiny.
