Ben Murray-Bruce on PDP crisis discusses why Amaechi and other governors left the PDP in 2015.

Ben Murray-Bruce on PDP crisis has reignited debate over the events that triggered the mass defection of key governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2015 general election. The former Bayelsa senator said poor decisions and misguided advice given to former President Goodluck Jonathan contributed to the political crisis.

Speaking in a viral video, Murray-Bruce argued that some of Jonathan’s closest aides ignored repeated warnings that influential PDP governors were becoming dissatisfied. Consequently, he said the administration failed to act before the situation worsened.

According to him, the concerns of senior party figures were not treated with the urgency they deserved. As a result, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and five other governors eventually left the PDP, a move that reshaped Nigeria’s political landscape before the 2015 elections.

Murray-Bruce criticised the quality of advice reaching the former president. He maintained that those surrounding Jonathan failed to understand the growing frustration within the party and did not provide effective leadership during a critical period.

“As I sit here and think about my experience with people who were so incompetent and unconcerned about the people they served, giving silly advice to the Commander-in-Chief, I am amazed. I can’t get over it,” he said.

Ben Murray-Bruce on PDP crisis adds to continuing discussions about the internal divisions that weakened the PDP before the 2015 election. Political analysts have long argued that unresolved grievances within the party played a significant role in the defections that altered Nigeria’s political history.
