Borno school abduction has left several students missing after suspected bandits stormed a secondary school in Borno State and kidnapped candidates sitting the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination.
The Borno school abduction happened on Monday morning at Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area. The attackers struck while students were writing the Senior School Certificate Examination. During the raid, they killed one teacher and injured another before fleeing with an unspecified number of students and staff.
Residents said the gunmen arrived in large numbers, firing repeatedly and forcing students and teachers to flee. However, many were captured during the attack.
Witnesses also claimed that soldiers stationed in the community had left for a patrol in nearby Uba, about 16 kilometres away, shortly before the gunmen arrived. As a result, the attackers reportedly met little resistance as panic spread across the community.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident. He said security agencies are investigating the attack and acknowledged that several students remain missing after the raid.
The latest Borno school abduction has renewed concerns about the safety of schools in Nigeria’s North-East, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted educational institutions. Security agencies are expected to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and track down those responsible.
