President Tinubu urges journalists to uphold professionalism, accuracy and ethical reporting, saying responsible journalism is essential to protecting Nigeria’s democracy.
Speaking at the maiden State House Media Corps Presidential Dinner in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to press freedom. However, he warned that journalists must balance freedom of expression with responsibility by verifying facts before publication.
Furthermore, he urged media professionals to reject misinformation, disinformation and AI-generated fake content, warning that false reports could threaten national security and public trust. Tinubu stressed that government and the media play different but complementary roles in strengthening democracy through accountability and transparency.
The President also defended the Cybercrimes Act, insisting it protects Nigeria’s information space rather than suppresses press freedom. Meanwhile, he said economic reforms and security operations are delivering positive results across the country.
