Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has announced that the third edition of the National Assembly Open Week will hold from July 14 to 16, 2026, as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the 10th National Assembly.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, who said this year’s event is themed, “Three Years of the 10th Assembly: Advancing Transparency, Inclusion, and Reform.”
According to Speaker Abbas, the Open Week is designed to deepen transparency, strengthen public trust and provide Nigerians with an opportunity to engage directly with lawmakers, assess the legislature’s performance and contribute ideas to improve democratic governance.
He said the 2026 edition will feature major engagements, including a Legislative Business Breakfast to promote collaboration between the legislature and the private sector, a National Security Roundtable on state policing and security reforms, discussions on reserved legislative seats for women and persons with disabilities, and a Youth Town Hall ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abbas noted that democracy thrives when institutions remain open and accountable, urging Nigerians to participate actively in the three-day programme.
The event will also provide an opportunity for the National Assembly to unveil its three-year scorecard, highlighting the achievements of the 10th Assembly since its inauguration in 2023.
Activities will begin on July 14 with the opening ceremony and presentation of the scorecard at the House of Representatives Chamber, while subsequent sessions will focus on legislative oversight, national security, inclusive governance, economic growth and youth participation.
The National Assembly introduced the Open Week initiative in 2024 to promote openness, accountability and greater citizen engagement in the legislative process, with the 2026 edition expected to build on the successes of the previous two editions.
