APC first-term governors back Tinubu reforms during meeting in Kebbi State

APC first-term governors have backed President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms while urging tougher action to tackle Nigeria’s worsening security crisis. The governors made their position known after a meeting in Kebbi State, where they pledged support for policies aimed at rebuilding the economy.

In a communiqué presented by Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, the governors acknowledged the hardship many Nigerians face. However, they argued that the reforms are necessary to restore public finances, attract investment, improve productivity and drive long-term economic growth.

Furthermore, the governors appealed to Nigerians to remain united and support the reform agenda. They also urged federal, state and local governments to expand relief programmes and strengthen social protection for vulnerable citizens affected by the economic transition.

On security, the APC first-term governors voiced concern over terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, attacks on schools and other violent crimes. They pledged to work more closely with the Federal Government, security agencies, traditional rulers and local communities to improve security and protect lives and property.

In addition, the governors condemned the abduction of children, attacks on schools and the killing of innocent citizens. They called for faster rescue operations and the prosecution of those responsible.

They also criticised reported attacks on Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa. The governors condemned xenophobia and urged South African authorities to investigate the incidents thoroughly and ensure the safety of foreign nationals.

The APC first-term governors said stronger cooperation, sustained reforms and improved security remain essential to Nigeria’s stability and future development.
