The Airtel Africa Foundation, working through Airtel Nigeria and in partnership with the Ishk Tolaram Foundation, Co-Creation Hub (CcHub), and SAIL Innovation Lab, has launched the DigiLeap Women in Tech Programme. The initiative aims to equip 200 young women from underserved communities in Ikorodu, Lagos, with valuable digital skills and direct pathways into Nigeria’s growing technology sector.
Hosted at the SAIL Innovation Lab, the 12-week programme runs from June to September 2026. Participants will receive practical training in Product Design, Software Development, Digital Marketing, and Data Analytics. The DigiLeap Women in Tech Programme also combines technical learning with leadership training, structured mentorship from Airtel Nigeria professionals, and internship placements that offer real workplace experience and exposure to industry standards.
Speaking at the launch, Segun Ogunsanya, Chairman of the Airtel Africa Foundation, described investing in young women’s digital skills as one of the strongest ways to support Africa’s future. He added that the DigiLeap Women in Tech Programme reflects the Foundation’s commitment to expanding digital education and helping more young Africans take part in the continent’s digital transformation. He encouraged participants by saying, “We encourage every participant to approach this programme with purpose, discipline, and curiosity. The knowledge, networks, and mentorship you gain over the coming weeks have the potential to transform not only your own future but also the lives of your families, communities, and the next generation of girls who will look up to you. This is how lasting impact is created.”
Dinesh Balsingh, Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria, said the programme supports the company’s goal of building an inclusive digital economy by preparing more young Nigerians, especially women, for future technology careers. He said, “Nigeria’s digital economy presents enormous opportunities, but participation must be inclusive if we are to realise its full potential. Through the Airtel Africa Foundation, we are intentionally investing in young women because we recognise the immense value they bring to innovation, technology, and economic growth.
“DigiLeap is designed to equip participants with practical, industry-relevant skills that employers are looking for today while also giving them the confidence, mentorship, and professional exposure needed to build successful careers.”
The DigiLeap Women in Tech Programme features classroom learning, practical projects, mentorship sessions, and internship opportunities that help participants move confidently into the technology workforce. Through this initiative, the Airtel Africa Foundation continues to strengthen youth empowerment, promote digital inclusion, and support Nigeria’s long-term digital transformation.
