The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has confirmed that it deliberately chose not to submit a presidential candidate through the INEC nomination portal for the 2027 general election. The party explained that this decision followed its official endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term. APGA support Tinubu reflects a political strategy rather than any failure to meet electoral requirements.

Speaking to Vanguard, APGA National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, said the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) reached the decision after broad consultations. He stated, “We have not uploaded a presidential candidate because the National Executive Committee of the party has already taken a decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.” He added that APGA support Tinubu because the party believes the move serves the national interest.

Opara also made it clear that the party remains fully active in the 2027 elections. He confirmed that APGA has successfully submitted all candidates contesting seats in the Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly within the deadline set by INEC. According to him, every required document was filed correctly and on time.

The spokesman stressed that the party’s decision at the presidential level does not mean it is stepping away from the electoral process. Instead, APGA support Tinubu while working to increase its representation in both the National Assembly and state legislatures. He said the party remains committed to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy by presenting capable candidates who can provide effective representation and protect the interests of supporters.

Opara urged party members to remain united, campaign actively for legislative candidates, and back President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in line with the NEC’s decision. He maintained that the absence of an APGA presidential candidate on the INEC portal reflects the party’s chosen strategy for the 2027 polls.

What impact do you think APGA’s strategy could have on its future political influence?
