Vozinha Joins Colo-Colo After World Cup Heroics

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has completed a move to Colo-Colo, with the Chilean club confirming the signing after the veteran shot-stopper became one of the standout stories of the FIFA World Cup 2026. The Vozinha Colo-Colo transfer sees the experienced goalkeeper join the Chilean giants on a six-month contract, with an option to extend the deal by another year.

Announcing the move on X, the club said, “Vozinha signed his contract and officially became a new Colo-Colo player.” The 40-year-old completed his medical earlier on Monday before finalising the agreement.

According to Chilean media, Vozinha is expected to make his debut on 16 August against O’Higgins, as Colo-Colo aim to maintain their strong lead at the top of the Chilean Premier Division.

The Vozinha Colo-Colo move follows an unforgettable FIFA World Cup 2026, where the goalkeeper played a key role in Cape Verde’s historic debut at the tournament. His outstanding performances helped the African nation progress beyond the group stage after earning draws against eventual champions Spain and two-time world champions Uruguay, before suffering a narrow defeat to Argentina in the last 32.

His remarkable displays also transformed his online profile, with his Instagram following growing from around 50,000 to approximately 17.4 million after his heroics against Spain during the opening week of the competition.

Born Josimar Jose Evore Dias, the goalkeeper received special permission from Chilean football authorities to wear his famous nickname, Vozinha, on his shirt despite regulations that initially prohibited it. The nickname, which means “little grandmother” in Portuguese, was given to him as a child because he would often cry after losing street football matches before running home to his grandparents, who raised him.

Before joining Colo-Colo, Vozinha played for Portuguese second-division side Chaves and previously featured for clubs in Angola, Cyprus, Moldova, and Slovakia.
