The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to support the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security outfit established by Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho. The Iru Ekun Security Network received the donation during a courtesy visit by Sunday Igboho and members of the group to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.
According to a statement issued by the Ooni’s Senior Media Officer, Sodiq Lawal, on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare, the monarch described the security outfit as a timely initiative designed to complement existing efforts to protect the lives and property of Yoruba people.
The Ooni praised Sunday Igboho for his courage, resilience, and commitment to the welfare and security of the Yoruba people. He stressed that genuine leadership is demonstrated through selfless service and meaningful contributions to society, adding that peace and security remain essential for the development of Yorubaland.
“I commend Chief Sunday Igboho for taking a bold step towards strengthening community security. Protecting our people is a collective responsibility that transcends political, religious and ideological differences. Every initiative genuinely designed to preserve lives and maintain peace deserves encouragement and support,” the Ooni stated.
The monarch also urged traditional rulers, business leaders, professionals, traditionalists, and Yoruba sons and daughters around the world to support the Iru Ekun Security Network. He emphasised that unity remains the foundation for lasting peace and progress across the region.
Responding, Sunday Igboho thanked the Ooni for the generous support and royal encouragement. He described the monarch as “the father of all Yoruba people worldwide” and praised his humility, wisdom, and dedication to Yoruba unity.
Igboho also revealed plans to organise a security summit involving traditional rulers from across Yorubaland to discuss practical solutions to regional security challenges. He said the proposed meeting, subject to the Ooni’s approval, is expected to take place at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.
He reaffirmed that the Iru Ekun Security Network would continue operating within the law while working with relevant authorities and local communities to promote peace, intelligence gathering, and community policing.
