Nollywood actress Jemima Osunde has confronted a motorist who allegedly drove against traffic in Lagos, saying she refused to leave her lane to accommodate the driver.
Osunde made the comments in a video shared online. She alleged that the motorist abandoned the correct lane to escape traffic congestion and entered a lane used by motorists travelling towards Lekki.
The actress said she deliberately remained in her lane. She argued that traffic congestion did not justify breaking road rules.
“I will not leave my lane for you when you are passing one way. I won’t do it,” Osunde said.
She also rejected the idea that the presence of police officers in the vehicle should make her give way.
The actress criticised motorists who, she said, routinely ignore traffic rules because of congestion. She argued that such behaviour makes traffic problems worse across Lagos.
According to Osunde, motorists should follow designated lanes and obey traffic lights, even when roads become heavily congested.
“I’m sick of Nigerians just doing anyhow, as if Lagos is not congested enough, without you passing one way and breaking traffic lights,” she said.
However, Osunde said she would make an exception for emergency vehicles.
She said ambulances and fire trucks should be allowed to pass because they may be responding to urgent situations.
“Unless you’re an ambulance or a fire truck and emergency service, I will not leave my lane for you when you’re passing one way,” she added.
The video has since drawn attention online, with the actress’ comments highlighting the wider frustration over traffic congestion and road discipline in Lagos.
Her position also raises a familiar question for motorists: should drivers tolerate illegal manoeuvres simply because traffic is heavy?
For Jemima Osunde, the answer appears to be no. She said she would rather remain in traffic than encourage motorists to break the rules.
