FEMD Rescues Two From Collapsed Building In Kubwa

The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has rescued two residents trapped after a residential building partially collapsed in Kubwa, Abuja.

FEMD Head of Media and Public Relations, Nkechi Isa, confirmed the rescue in a statement issued on Friday. She said emergency responders acted quickly after receiving a distress call at 11:38 a.m.

The one-storey residential building, located at Kubwa 2/2 by Yellow Page, partially collapsed at about 11:30 a.m. The structure contains six blocks of flats.

According to Isa, the two victims lived on the ground floor and became trapped beneath rubble from the collapsed right section of the building. Emergency workers successfully removed both residents from the debris.

Other tenants had left the property earlier in the day, which helped prevent additional casualties. However, the collapse destroyed household belongings and other property.

“The two rescued victims were immediately rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital, where officials confirmed that they were in stable condition.

The Kubwa building collapse drew a rapid response from several emergency and security agencies. FEMD worked alongside the Department of Development Control and the FCT Police Command at the scene.

The agencies secured the area and began investigations into the cause of the structural failure.

The incident highlights the importance of building safety and rapid emergency response, particularly in densely populated residential areas. The swift intervention by responders helped prevent what could have resulted in greater loss of life.

Both rescued residents remain in stable condition following treatment at Kubwa General Hospital, while authorities continue efforts to determine what caused the building collapse in Kubwa.
