Music star Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, popularly known as Joeboy, has backed early marriage, saying he likes the idea of marrying in his 20s and raising teenage children before he reaches his 40s.
The 29-year-old singer shared his views during an interview with British media personality Madame Joyce.
Joeboy said he began to think differently about marriage after hearing Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson discuss his own experience.
Egbuson had said in an earlier interview that he wished he had married earlier, despite describing himself as a “ladies’ man”.
According to Joeboy, the comment made him consider the possible benefits of early marriage.
The singer said he would like to have teenage children by the time he reaches his 40s. He suggested that marrying young could allow him to enjoy a different stage of family life earlier.
However, Joeboy also revealed that he would probably keep his marriage private if he decided to marry soon.
The singer said that even if he got married immediately, he would not necessarily make a public announcement.
His comments have since drawn attention because of his age and his growing career in Nigeria’s music industry.
Joeboy has built a strong following with songs that have gained popularity in Nigeria and beyond. His comments also highlight the changing attitudes of young Nigerians towards relationships, marriage and family life.
For some people, early marriage offers the chance to build a family while still young. Others prefer to focus first on their careers, finances and personal development.
For Joeboy, however, the idea appears attractive.
At 29, the singer still has time to decide when and how he wants to settle down. For now, he has made it clear that marriage is something he is seriously considering, even if he chooses to keep the ceremony away from the public eye.
