The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has ordered all Nigeria Police Force commands and formations to submit details of personnel with advanced academic qualifications.
The directive requires information on serving inspectors and rank-and-file personnel who hold doctorate degrees, master’s degrees or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) certificates.
A police wireless message dated September 14, 2026, and marked “Most/Immediate”, contained the order. The message came from the Force Secretary’s Office in Abuja and set Wednesday, September 16, 2026, as the deadline.
“IGP directs, as a matter of urgency, that you forward a list of inspectors/rank-and-file serving under you who are holders of doctorate degrees, master’s degrees or LLB, in addition to their posting signals, on or before 16/09/2026. I repeat, on or before 16/09/2026. Treat as very important,” the message stated.
The Nigeria Police Force addressed the communication to the AIG, Department of Training and Development, police colleges, various departments, training institutions and all state commands.
The message also went to the office of the Inspector-General of Police and all Commissioners of Police.
Police authorities specifically asked for the names and details of officers within the inspector and rank-and-file categories who possess the listed academic qualifications. They also requested their posting signals alongside the academic information.
The directive highlights the police authorities’ focus on gathering details about the educational qualifications of serving personnel across its various commands, departments and institutions.
The police directive was classified as urgent, with all affected formations expected to provide the requested information by September 16, 2026.
What could the Police Force’s next step be after collecting these academic qualifications?
