The PVC collection exercise will begin across Nigeria on October 9, 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, announced the date on Monday in Kaduna during the commission’s North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with staff and a readiness assessment for the 2027 General Election.
The announcement comes after a recent voter registration exercise that recorded more than 10.7 million new registrations.
INEC said the new registrations resulted from the latest phases of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise. The commission is now preparing for the next stage of the electoral process.
Amupitan also directed attention to the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards. He called for the removal of bottlenecks that could affect PVC distribution at the Local Government Area level.
According to the INEC chairman, resolving those challenges is necessary to prevent eligible voters from being unable to collect their cards.
The commission has continued to provide online services that allow registered voters to check their voter information and locate relevant registration and collection centres.
Meanwhile, INEC has published information on its voter portal for citizens who need to check their registration status or obtain information about their PVCs.
The PVC collection exercise will take place ahead of the 2027 General Election. INEC’s published election timetable lists January 16, 2027, for the nationwide presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and State House of Assembly elections in participating states are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
The commission has also urged its officials to address logistical issues ahead of the election. The focus includes ensuring that eligible voters can access their voter cards without unnecessary delays.

The PVC collection date therefore marks another stage in preparations for the 2027 elections, as INEC moves from voter registration towards card distribution and other election-readiness activities.
