Babatunji Wusu –
A car accident at Takalafia, a community near the Yawuri Expressway in the Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, claimed the lives of at least 25 people.
Around three in the morning on Tuesday, a DAF articulated vehicle is reported to have lost control due to overspeeding.
In a statement released in Abuja, Bisi Kazeem, the FRSC Public Education Officer, confirmed the accident.
According to Mr. Kazeem, there were five male youngsters, four female adults, and twenty male adults engaged in the tragedy.
He stated that the deceased were placed in the mortuary of the same hospital in Niger State, and that the injured victims were flown to Kontagora General Hospital for emergency medical care.
Mohammed Bago, the governor of Niger State, has already expressed outrage over the incident.
According to a statement made by Bologi Ibrahim, his media assistant, the governor called the incident regrettable and preventable.
He criticized certain drivers for their callousness, particularly when they break traffic laws and end up hurting other people and their loved ones.
Mr. Bago issued a warning to drivers, especially those operating trailers and other haulage vehicles, about the grave risks involved in carrying people in their cars.
He stressed that in order to guarantee that those who break traffic laws face harsh punishments, his government will collaborate closely with the appropriate authorities.
