In a solemn response to recent student killings, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA) has postponed its second semester examinations for the 2024/2025 academic session. The exams, originally set to begin on Monday, July 28, will now commence on Thursday, July 31.
The university announced the decision in an official statement released by Registrar Olugbenga Arajulu. The move follows the tragic deaths of three students: Andrel Okah, John Abbah, and most recently, Joy Adeyemi, who were killed in separate incidents within the past month.
According to the statement, the rescheduling of examinations is intended to honor the memory of the deceased and express solidarity with the student body during this difficult time. Mr. Arajulu extended the management’s condolences to the families and the entire university community, describing the events as “tragic and deeply unfortunate.”
He further assured that the university is collaborating with security agencies and the host community to prevent further violence and protect lives on campus.
The statement concluded with a firm condemnation of the killings and a renewed commitment to student safety.
