Umuahia, Abia State – Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Otti has announced that his administration has developed a comprehensive plan to dredge the Aba River, ensuring the free flow of water and safeguarding public health.

Speaking at the Government House, Umuahia, while responding to a reporter’s question about the new Enyimba Hotel, Governor Otti warned that any company found discharging industrial waste into the river would face strict penalties.

“It is now an offense that is punishable. You must have a way to treat your waste,” he said. “It is improper to discharge your waste into a flowing river when some people drink from it.”

The governor added that his administration had already engaged with one company responsible for polluting the river, making them aware of the legal and environmental consequences of their actions.

Governor Otti emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting the environment while promoting responsible industrial practices across the state.
