Tunji Wusu –
Abdullahi Adamu, a native of Katsina state who was apprehended for abduction in Ondo State, has revealed why he engaged in the illicit action.
In a group of 31 suspected criminals paraded by the Ondo State security agency on Monday in Akure, Adamu was one of nine kidnappers.
The motorcyclist claimed that after armed robbers killed his father, he entered the abduction profession.
“Destiny compelled me to become a kidnapper. My father is no longer in my life. Years ago, armed robbers killed my father.
“Life got tough for me and my siblings when he passed away. Our mother was unable to care for us properly. My siblings and I found it very difficult to survive. Thus, I made the decision to enter the abduction industry, he stated.
Adamu claimed that during his initial kidnapping attempt, the Amotekun captured him.
Meanwhile, Bello, a victim of Adamu’s syndicate, revealed how he was abducted while attending the 7 p.m. prayer at his Akunnu-Akoko home.
The farmer claimed that six armed men approached him, beat him with a stick, and told him to enter the forest.
Bello claimed that for five days without access to water, he survived on a meager supply of garri before being happily saved by the Amotekun Corps.
“They asked me to follow them and some of them had firearms. I was led into the woods by them. They then got in touch with my relatives and demanded a ransom to free me.
The farmer claimed that when they came to demand the ransom payment for his release, Amotekun Corps members came to his rescue.
Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the state commander of the security team, revealed that his men impersonated the victim’s family members.
He said that the syndicate’s members were detained when they attempted to demand ransom.
“We found the other six suspects thanks to the three who were arrested. Therefore, nine of them were detained, and they will soon be charged in court, according to Adeleye.
