Babatunji Wusu –

It has been refused for Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, to see President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, announced the suspended minister’s suspension from office moments earlier, and TVC claims that she was denied the opportunity to speak with the president.

Our correspondent was able to view a video of Edu leaving the State House as soon as she was told she couldn’t see the president and was taken away in a black SUV.

In the meantime, the minister has been invited to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, due to a purported N585 million controversy.

An immaculate EFCC source verified the development to Daily Trust. The source stated that Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the anti-graft agency, had already suggested to the President that the Minister be suspended in order to allow for a thorough probe.

The invitation was sent out less than an hour after President Bola Tinubu declared Edu’s removal from office and gave the EFCC the mandate to thoroughly look into all financial transactions involving the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Humanitarian Affairs, as well as one or more agencies under its purview.

In addition, the president gave the suspended minister instructions to turn herself over to the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary and to fully assist the investigating authorities in their work.

In addition, Tinubu assigned a panel led by Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, to perform a thorough diagnostic on the financial architecture and framework of the social investment programs in order to reform the relevant institutions and programs in a way that would finally eradicate all institutional weaknesses for the sole benefit of low-income households and restore public trust in the initiative.
