After scoring twice in a championship game for his former team Nacional, which defeated Liverpool of Montevideo 4-1 to win the Uruguayan Championship on Sunday, Luis Suarez honored Nacional and its supporters.
Suarez, 35, achieved success in Europe with Ajax Amsterdam, Premier League Liverpool, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid before returning home to join Nacional on a free transfer in July.

Prior to his fourth World Cup finals appearance for Uruguay, the striker, who scored eight goals in 16 games this season, claimed he made the right choice to return to Nacional.
Suarez told reporters after the game, “I am satisfied to have taken the right move, to have appreciated this moment, and I am happy to conclude it like this.
“I feel content and proud that I made the proper choice. Although there are recurring uncertainties about whether a decision was the right one, celebrating with our community and loved ones is invaluable.
The Estadio Centenario fans applauded Suarez as he left the field in the 119th minute after scoring twice in the second half and extra time.
“I have no other words of thanks except to demonstrate it on the field,” he continued. “I am extremely glad because I came for them (the fans), I loved it with them.
“Tonight was a beautiful night, perfect. People appreciated it. Not just Nacional supporters, but Uruguayan football fans really enjoyed having a player from Europe who has the mindset that he is still active.”
“I’m grateful for your love from the moment I came till I left today.”
Suarez, whose contract expires in December, might join Martin Caceres and Gaston Brugman at the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer the following season.
