Just 43 days after being appointed, Suella Braverman has resigned as the United Kingdom’s home secretary.
On October 19, she wrote a letter to UK Prime Minister Liz Truss in which she expressed her deepest remorse for her decision to quit. As part of policy engagement today, I emailed an official document from my personal email to a dependable parliamentary colleague in an effort to win their support for the government’s migration strategy.

Technically, the rules have been broken here. As you are aware, the document was a draft written ministerial statement on migration that would soon be published.
The MPs were already briefed on the most of it. It’s appropriate for me to leave. As soon as I realized my error, I immediately notified the cabinet secretary and reported it through appropriate procedures. I hold myself to the highest standards as home secretary, and it is the proper thing to resign.
