The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos may need to pause its election campaigning in order to grieve with Funke Akindele, the party’s running mate for governor, over the passing of her mother, Dr. R. B. Adebanjo-Akindele, who was announced as having passed away on Tuesday night after a brief illness.
According to reports, the well-known actress’s mother passed away in one of the hospitals in Lagos following a brief illness, and a doctor declared her dead after doing various checks on her.
The Guild has confirmation from a source close to the running mate of the Lagos PDP governorship candidate that Akindele lost her mother on Tuesday. The source added that the actress’s entire family was shocked by the woman’s passing and may take some time to heal.
Even though the gubernatorial race is still a few weeks away, the source revealed that campaign efforts may be held down as a result of the loss, despite her refusal to disclose the woman’s cause of death or any other specifics.
According to the source, Akindele’s death has been communicated to the state PDP branch, giving the actress cause to temporarily suspend her campaigning and public appearances as she makes preparations for her mother’s funeral.
“Funke has been sobbing; she adores her mother, and the news of her death has come as a huge shock to her. As soon as word of her mother’s passing reached the public, party leaders and supporters flocked to her home to pay their respects.
Akindele may need to take some time off work to mourn her mother’s passing and to help her siblings and other family members make funeral arrangements.
Due to the sensitivity of the loss, I am not permitted to publish the name of the Lagos hospital where Funke’s mother passed away on Tuesday. I expect the actress to make a statement on her mother’s passing as soon as she is able to.
