The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has mourned the passing of Barrister Segun Awolowo Jnr, describing his death as a devastating loss to the Yoruba race and Nigeria.
Akpabio, in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, said the news of Awolowo’s death “came unexpectedly,” noting that he remained shocked by the development. He added that although the loss was painful, “no one can question the will of the Creator.”
He praised the late Awolowo — grandson of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo — as a brilliant lawyer who inspired many Nigerians to pursue excellence.
The Senate President extended condolences to the Awolowo family of Ikenne, Ogun State; Governor Dapo Abiodun; and the people of the state, describing the loss as “irreplaceable.”
Akpabio said Awolowo’s death was a major national blow and expressed sympathy for his wife and children, noting that his legacy as a lawyer, family man, and compassionate Nigerian would endure.
“On behalf of the people of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District and the 10th Senate, I pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for the family, friends, and associates he leaves behind,” Akpabio said.
He added that Segun Awolowo’s contributions to the legal profession and the country would continue to inspire generations.
