Senator Godswill Akpabio, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Akwa Ibom North West District, has promised to provide better services to the people of the district if elected in the February election.

The former Senate Minority Leader made the pledge as he began his ward tour of the district in Oruk Anam Local Government Area on Wednesday, urging people to vote APC in the presidential, senatorial, and other elections for quality development.

He also assured the people of the local government of his determination to provide better services with their help and votes in the national elections next month.

“The election next month is a national one. On February 25th, we must use our votes to re-elect Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu as our president, me as your Senator, and other national assembly candidates. The Broom is our party’s logo. I am now in the broom party because the umbrella had long been torn into shreds”.

Akpabio, who is also the National Vice Chairman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, stated that he decided to begin his ward tour in Oruk Anam following his Supreme Court victory to show his appreciation to the people of the area for their support since 2006, when he first ran for governor of the state.

“The people of Oruk Anam are my political backbone and this dates back to 2006 when I was aspiring for the governorship of our dear state. You helped me defeat over 56 other candidates in the primaries. You also supported me when I ran for governor in 2006 and again in 2011.

“As governor, I laid a solid foundation for the future development of our senatorial district and the state in general. My exceptional performance as your governor laid the groundwork for the emergence of another governor within us in the future, because, as the saying goes, one good turn deserves another.

“Before I left office in 2015, I was able to link Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika local government areas to other parts of the state through good road network.

“I was also elected to the National Assembly with your help. “It is in appreciation of that support that I have decided to begin my ward tour in Oruk Anam in order to personally thank all of you for your support,” he said.

He did, however, mention that he was overwhelmingly voted to return to the Senate in 2019, but that some people conspired to deny him victory. “The Professor who robbed me of that victory in 2019 is now in jail,” he rejoiced.

Mr Aniekan Solomon Abraham aka Ani Solo, the House of Assembly candidate for Oruk Anam State constituency, promised to deliver the local government to the party during his rally speech.

He thanks Akpabio and his campaign team for making Oruk Anam the starting point for the senatorial campaign, arguing that it demonstrated the importance placed on the area over the years.

“In this local government, you and our presidential candidate are our project. Your ambition crosses party lines. We need a national voice, and we have all agreed to deliver Asiwaju Tinubu, Senator Akpabio, and other candidates at all levels. “The results of the polls will speak for themselves,” he declared.

Senator Akpabio and his campaign team went on a ward tour, stopping at Ikot Afanga for Wards in Oruk and Ikot Akpan Essien for Wards in Anam.

Senator Akpabio, who was surprised by the large turnout of supporters, said he went on a Ward Tour but the turnout was like a Local Government Area rally. He thanked the people for their overwhelming support and promised to return the favor with their Senate mandate.
