Anderson Joins Man City in Record Move

Manchester City have completed the signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest in a reported £116 million ($154 million) deal, with the England midfielder signing a five-year contract that includes the option of an additional 12 months.

The transfer, agreed earlier this month, was finalised after Anderson returned from the World Cup. The 23-year-old said he was thrilled to join one of football’s biggest clubs and is eager to compete for major honours.

Speaking after the move, Elliot Anderson said, “I can’t wait to play for this club. It’s a club built to win trophies and compete at the very top of the game. That is exciting for any footballer.”

He added, “I think they’re winners, they’re relentless, and that’s the sort of team I want to be a part of. Over the last 10, 12 years, they’ve dominated, so that’s why I wanted to join.”

Looking ahead to his first Manchester derby, Anderson described Manchester City as the dominant force in the city, saying, “It’s one of the biggest derbies in the world and for as long as I’ve known Manchester, City have been the kings of Manchester. It’ll be a great fixture and I can’t wait to be involved in something like that.”

Elliot Anderson came through the academy at Newcastle United, making 55 first-team appearances before joining Nottingham Forest in a £35 million move two years ago. He went on to play 92 matches for Forest and earned his first England call-up last season, helping Thomas Tuchel’s side finish third at the World Cup.

City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, praised the midfielder, saying, “Elliot is one of the outstanding young midfield talents in world football. We feel he can become a complete midfielder.”
