The Guards Brigade Nigerian Army has provided details regarding the passing of a National Youth Service Corps member named Abdulsamad Jamiu. According to military officials, the young man lost his life during an armed robbery incident in the Dei-Dei area of Abuja. A spokesperson for the brigade, Lt. Olawuyi Odunola, explained that the victim was caught in a crossfire between soldiers and a gang of criminals.

The trouble began in the early hours of April 25 when troops responded to a distress call from Shagari Estate. Upon arriving at the scene, the soldiers encountered fleeing suspects who immediately opened fire. This led to a brief but intense exchange of bullets as the army tried to protect the local residents. Sadly, during this armed robbery incident, Abdulsamad Jamiu was hit. Although efforts were made to save him, he later died from his injuries.

The army described the event as deeply regrettable. They noted that the situation was very dangerous and moving quickly. The Commander of the Guards Brigade has shared heartfelt condolences with the family of the deceased and the NYSC leadership. The military has now started a thorough investigation to understand every detail of the shooting. They promised to share their findings with the public once the review is complete.

Currently, the body of the deceased is at the Kubwa General Hospital. The army has pledged to review its safety rules to better protect civilians in the future. They also asked residents to stay calm while security agencies work to keep the Federal Capital Territory safe. This armed robbery incident has caused great concern among locals regarding the safety of their neighbourhoods.
