Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, Joint Task Force North East, have rescued 86 kidnapped victims and arrested 29 suspected logistics suppliers of Boko Haram and ISWAP during coordinated operations in Borno State.
The victims, mostly motorists and passengers, were reportedly abducted around Dutsen Kura along the Damaturu, Buratai, and Biu Road.
A senior military source, who confirmed the operation on Sunday, said the mission was carried out by troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Sector 2 on November 9, 2025.
According to the source, the troops encountered the terrorists while they were abducting civilians and vehicles along the Buratai and Kamuya axis.
The troops swiftly responded and pursued the insurgents towards Mangari, engaging them in a fierce gun battle. The terrorists were overpowered and fled in disarray.
He added that the troops discovered and destroyed 11 makeshift structures belonging to the insurgents and rescued 86 victims, including men, women, and children.
Recovered items from the scene include one AK-47 rifle, five magazines containing 73 rounds of ammunition, four PKT ammunition belts, five civilian vehicles, five motorcycles, eight bicycles, and two tricycles used for logistics.
In a related operation, troops deployed at Mangada in Biu Local Government Area arrested 29 suspected terrorist logistics suppliers en route to Chilaria with several items.
The recovered items included two pickup vans and a tricycle loaded with about 1,000 litres of petrol in jerrycans, four gallons of engine oil, two new gun truck tyres, a large quantity of medical supplies, and assorted foodstuffs.
All operations were conducted successfully without any casualty on the part of the troops.
The military high command commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism and urged them to sustain the ongoing operations to deny terrorists freedom of movement across the North East.
