The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched an intensified proactive security operation aimed at ensuring the safety of worship centres and residents across the FCT during the ember months.
The operation, carried out on November 9, 2025, involved a special church patrol conducted by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the FCT Police Command in collaboration with personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilante groups. The patrol covered forested and border communities linking Bwari to Kaduna State, Bwari to Niger State, and Gwagwalada to Niger State.
According to the FCT Police Command, the patrol lasted from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and was designed to strengthen public confidence in security agencies, deter criminal activities, and ensure that worshippers can attend religious services without fear of harassment or attacks.
During the exercise, police officers engaged with church leaders in the affected areas, reassured them of the command’s commitment to their safety, and sensitized them on proactive security measures. These included recommendations to minimize late-night religious activities, maintain close contact with security agencies, and promptly report any suspicious persons or movements in their communities.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, also directed the identification and blocking of routes commonly exploited by criminals, as part of intelligence-led preventive measures. Strategic security posts within forest areas were placed on high alert and maintained under constant supervision throughout the patrol.
The FCT Police Command emphasized that maintaining security is a shared responsibility between law enforcement agencies and residents. Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities promptly, and cooperate with the police and other security agencies to ensure a safe environment.

SP Josephine Adeh, the Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command, assured that the command will continue to implement dynamic strategies to maintain a crime-free environment across the FCT.
The operation underscores the FCT Police Command’s commitment to proactive policing and the protection of lives and property, particularly during periods historically associated with increased criminal activity.
