Arsenal secured their first win at Anfield in 14 years after beating Liverpool 1-0 on Sunday to move to the top of the Premier League table.

Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal in the first half, ending Arsenal’s long wait for a victory at Liverpool’s home ground.

The Gunners had not won at Anfield since 2012, when their current manager, Mikel Arteta, was still playing in midfield.

Havertz broke the deadlock in the 16th minute, finishing from close range at the far post after Declan Rice delivered a low cross across the face of goal.

Arsenal then showed strong defensive discipline to protect their lead, particularly during the first half when Liverpool put the visitors under pressure.

The result also gave Arsenal their sixth clean sheet in nine Premier League matches as they continued their title defence.

It was the Gunners’ eighth victory of the campaign and lifted them above Manchester City into first place in the standings.

For Liverpool, the defeat ended a run of five consecutive wins. It was also their second league loss of the season, following their earlier defeat to Manchester City at Anfield on October 11.
