Following the collapse of a multi-story indoor sports complex at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, three people are thought dead.

The Nation learned that numerous people had been hurt and were being taken to the hospital.

Our correspondent discovered that building site workers were among the fatalities.

The two-storey is being built in advance of the 21st National Sports Festival (NSF), which will be held at the stadium beginning on November 28.

Tonobok Okowa, the chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, allegedly ordered the abuse of a team of journalists who went to assess the extent of the damage.

Send them away, journalists are not needed, said Okowa, who doubles as co-chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the festival known as Asaba 2022. Do they still exist here? Gather their devices and leave the area with them in a bundle.

According to reports, the thugs attacked the reporters, beating them with hazardous materials.

Sunday Dare, the minister of sports, recently examined the collapsed structure and declared that the facilities were 80 percent ready for usage.

However, some structural engineers expressed doubts about the strength of the under-construction buildings due to the speed at which construction was proceeding.
