Babatunji Wusu –

Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, has given his approval for the appointment of Afolabi Olaoye, a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, as the next Soun of Ogbomoso.

The former king, Jimoh Ajagungbade, who died in December 2021 at the age of 95 after ruling for 48 years, left the throne of the Soun, a notable monarch in south-west Nigeria, empty.

The choosing of a new king or queen descended into a court dispute last year when Abdulwahab Laoye, the chairman of the screening committee for the Laoye Ruling House in Ogbomoso, said the family had not chosen anyone to take the empty throne.

Olusegun Olayiwola, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, said in a statement on Saturday that the declaration had been made after the exhaustive procedures required by law.

Additionally, he exhorted everyone in the city to cooperate with the new ruler in order to build on the accomplishments of his forebears.

According to Mr. Olayiwola, “His Excellency congratulates the new Soun-elect on his ascension to the throne of his forebears.”

According to the commissioner, the monarch-elect is in a position to promote peace, tolerance, and understanding among his people because of his lofty position.

The Soun-elect revealed to journalists last year that he was initially uninterested in the throne but that he had been told by God directly that being the Soun was his destiny.

He continued by saying that he had informed his spiritual father, Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, about the circumstance.

He claimed that the RCCG leader advised him not to tell Mr. Adeboye he wasn’t interested, but instead to fast and pray about it instead.

Mr. Olaoye claimed that because he had not prayed about the instruction, he did not take it seriously.

But he added, “I heard God tell me that my destiny was to become the Soun of Ogbomoso on January 2, 2022.

“The next thing was something I clearly heard: ‘You were born for this; this is the reason for your birth.'” I heard that, at least. Of course, I didn’t anticipate that. But I am 10/10, I heard, let me tell you that,” he remarked.
