Former England international, Ashley Young is poised to sign for Inter Milan this week to end his nine-year stay at Manchester United

The  is in advanced talks with the Italian club and is expected to pen a contract in the coming days.

Antonio Conte wants Young to join this month, but United so far are refusing to let the 34-year-old leave in January.

Talks are ongoing over when Young will join and should be concluded in the coming days. If United permit Young to leave this month, he is expected to sign an 18-month deal.

If he pens a pre-contract, he will commit to a 12-month deal from the start of next season.

Young has been a huge presence at Old Trafford since his arrival from Aston Villa in 2011 for £17million.

He has gone on to make more than 250 appearances for the club under Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But with United looking to the future Young will not renew his current deal, which expires at the end of the season.

Young was not included in the squad beaten 3-1 at Old Trafford by Manchester City on Tuesday night.

He has fallen down the pecking order with Brandon Williams and Luke Shaw preferred on the left side of defence. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is backed up by Diogo Dalot on the right, meaning Young is struggling for game time.

Solskjaer would have to find a replacement not only in terms of the position but also fill the leadership void left by one of the team’s most experienced players.

The path between Inter and United is a well trodden one and Young would link up with former team-mate Romelu Lukaku.

Having joined Conte’s revolution for £75m in the summer, the powerful Belgian striker has gone on to help Inter top Serie A with 14 goals this season.

Alexis Sanchez also joined the Italian side from United in the summer, though his deal is a season-long loan.

Perhaps the friendly relationship between the two sides could also help foster an agreement for Lautaro Martinez, who United are thought to be interested in.
