Babatunji Wusu –
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has decided to join the nationwide strike that has been declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria. The strike is set to begin at midnight on Monday, November 13. This directive was issued by Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, the President of ASUU, in a letter sent to all the union’s zonal coordinators and branch chairpersons. The purpose of this strike is to protect the interests of Nigerian workers and to support the NLC’s leadership. It should be noted that the NLC and TUC initiated the nationwide strike last week due to the mistreatment of NLC President, Joe Ajaero, during a workers’ protest in Imo State.
