Babatunji Wusu –
Under an overturned, fully loaded sand truck outside the Danco Filling Station in the Iyana-Ipaja neighborhood of Lagos on Wednesday, a mother and her 9-year-old kid were rescued by Lastma personnel.
Due to careless driving, the driver of the overturned sand diesel truck (AGL 48 YD) lost control and overturned, critically injuring the mother and her 9-year-old son as well as herself.
Following an immediate inquiry, it was discovered that the truck’s driver had driven too recklessly, losing control of the vehicle and flipping it while dragging another heavily loaded containerized trailer under the Iyana-Ipaja Bridge.
The injured mother, her kid, and the truck driver were taken to General Hospital for emergency medical attention by an ambulance from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), while Lastma Officials from Zone 16 under the direction of Salau Akeem (Alfa) conducted the rescue operations.
Ile-Epo Police Division officers supplied security cover until the overturned truck was completely removed from the road to allow for unhindered traffic flow.
However, Mr. Bakare Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, made a plea to drivers, especially those of trucks, to respect speed limits and to cease hogging the right of way when passing other vehicles.
