A day after a supporter passed away in the stands, Granada rallied to tie Athletic Bilbao 1-1 in a La Liga match that was rescheduled for Monday.
After 17 minutes of play on Sunday, the match was suspended after Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simón informed the referee that there was an issue with one of the fans at Estadio Los Cármenes.
Although both teams’ doctors provided assistance, the fan who had a heart attack was not able to be revived. After leaving the field, the teams decided to resume play on Monday.
Before the game began in the seventeenth minute, both teams placed flowers on the fan’s seat and observed a minute of silence.
Iñaki Williams’ strike in the sixth minute put Athletic ahead 1-0, and he came close to adding another goal just before halftime but missed the crossbar.
The visitors dominated the first half, but when Granada tied the score ten minutes into the second half, they paid a price for their wastefulness.
Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta, a defender for Bilbao, attempted to clear a cross but instead ended up goaling into his own net.
Williams said to Movistar, “We feel like we’ve lost two points.” “We weren’t clinical, but we were better. We leave feeling disappointed, but there isn’t time to be sorry.
In the other game, Rayo Vallecano and struggling Celta Vigo drew 0-0 at home.
After 11 minutes, Florian Lejeune’s goal was disallowed despite Rayo having all the opportunities. Vicente Guaita, the Celta goalie, was outstanding.
Rayo held onto the tenth spot. Third from bottom was Celta.
