Atiku condemns ADC deregistration judgement during political address in Nigeria

|By Chinwendu Nwani – Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has strongly condemned the court ruling targeting the deregistration of the ADC and other opposition parties.

Atiku condemns ADC deregistration judgement, describing it as a serious threat to Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and political pluralism. He warned that the ruling signals an attempt to weaken opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released through his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the judgement should worry every Nigerian who values the rule of law. He stressed that Atiku condemns ADC deregistration judgement because it appears to ignore a subsisting Court of Appeal order that had already paused proceedings in the case.

According to him, the Court of Appeal in Abuja had on May 22, 2026, ordered a stay of proceedings in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2025. He argued that any ruling delivered despite that order raises questions about judicial compliance and institutional integrity.

The former vice president further said Atiku condemns ADC deregistration judgement because it reflects what he called a growing pattern of political pressure on opposition parties. He alleged that democratic institutions are being stretched beyond their limits for political advantage.

He accused the current administration of focusing more on political survival than national issues such as insecurity, inflation, unemployment, and poverty. “This is not governance,” he said, insisting that the ruling amounts to political exclusion rather than justice.

Atiku urged members of the ADC and supporters of democracy not to lose hope. He said the struggle goes beyond party politics and represents a battle for Nigeria’s democratic future.

He also called on the judiciary, civil society groups, and the media to remain alert and defend constitutional order.
