Babatunji Wusu –
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s nominee for president in the 2023 presidential election, has arrived in Kogi state for the party’s massive rally ahead of this Saturday’s governorship election.
The former vice president of the nation, Atiku, announced his visit on his official X Twitter and stated that he was in Kogi to back Dino Melaye, the party’s candidate for governor.
“My delegation and the @OfficialPDPNig are live at Sen. Tunde Ogbeha’s residence for Sen. Dino Melaye’s grand-rally, the PDP’s candidate for governorship in Saturday’s election,” Atiku wrote in a post.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, will hold the off-cycle governorship elections in the states of Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi on Saturday.
Melaye, the PDP contender in the Kogi state governorship election, is considered one of the favorites to win the position of governor.
According to Naija News, the Labour Party disbanded and announced its endorsement of PDP governor candidate Dino Melaye. The development dealt a severe blow to Ahmed Ododo, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and his ambitions.
Disagreements have already been reported inside the ruling party’s ranks, with disgruntled party members endorsing African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Leke Abejide and accusing Governor Yahaya Bello of forcing his candidate on the organization.
