Babatunji Wusu –
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) nominee for president in the 2023 election, is apparently preparing to launch a new political organization ahead of the general election of 2027 in order to take on the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Atiku has initiated the formation of the prospective party, working with several National Assembly members.
The Nation claims that Atiku’s team is concerned about the division among the main opposition party, believing that if it lasts until 2027, the party might not be able to unseat the ruling party.
According to a senator from the South who spoke with the aforementioned media, the former Vice President has been in contact with Abdulaziz Yari, the former governor of Zamfara State, who lost to Senator Godswill Akpabio in the Senate presidential contest.
According to the source, Atiku and his supporters are considering a reenactment of the events of 2013, when a number of federal lawmakers and governors rebelled against the PDP and joined forces with other parties to establish the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Remember the decision The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and what was dubbed the new-PDP came together to create the All Progressives Congress (APC) in February 2013.
The source said: “They have gone far in the arrangement. They believe that the country is in the same situation as it was in 2014 during the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s era, hence, their decision to form a mega party to wrest power from Tinubu.
“Ningi’s statement on the BBC Hausa Service was one of the moves of the promoters of the mega party. They want to create problems in the National Assembly and set the lawmakers against each other and the Presidency.”
The senator from the South said that most of his peers were aware of the scheme to topple Tinubu’s administration and transfer power back to the North.
He added: “We know their game plan. We are watching them. We have since returned to our political arsenal to thwart any move to create enmity between us and the Executive and destabilise the government.”
