The world of track and field has a new name on everyone’s lips: Gout Gout. The 18-year-old sprinting phenom has safely secured his spot as the fastest qualifier for the upcoming 100-meter semifinals at the Australian junior athletics championships. Competing at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre on Friday, the teenager clocked a smooth 10.19 seconds, further solidifying his status as a global powerhouse after a historic week on the track.

Just days prior, the young athlete stunned the sporting community by shattering the under-20 world record in the 200-meter dash. Racing at the open national titles in Sydney, he posted a staggering time of 19.67 seconds. This achievement officially surpassed the previous ratified record held by Erriyon Knighton and, perhaps most notably, outperformed the legendary Usain Bolt’s best time at the same age. While Knighton has a faster unratified time, Gout’s legal wind reading places him firmly at the top of the world standings this year.

Born in Queensland to South Sudanese parents, Gout grew up in Ipswich and is now eyeing the long-standing national open record of 9.93 seconds. Despite his rapid rise, the young star is maintaining a strategic approach to his career. He has confirmed he will bypass the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to prioritize the World Under-20 Championships in Oregon this August.

With the 2032 Olympics set to take place in his home state of Brisbane, many experts believe Gout will be in his physical prime just in time to lead the home nation on the world’s biggest stage. For now, the “star teenager” is simply relieved to prove his speed is the real deal. “There’s a big weight off my shoulders knowing I ran it legally,” Gout remarked, signaling that he is ready to push the boundaries of human speed even further.

Do you think Gout Gout has what it takes to break the senior world record before the 2032 Brisbane Olympics?
