Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem has signed a three-year contract with French Ligue 1 club FC Nantes, marking a return to the side he once featured for during the 2017/18 season.
The 27-year-old centre-back joins the Canaries from Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Colorado Rapids, sealing the switch as part of Nantes’ summer recruitment drive. Awaziem, known for his versatility and strength in defence, is expected to bring experience and depth to the club’s backline.
During his previous spell with Nantes, Awaziem made 23 appearances and scored once, endearing himself to fans with his committed displays. His return is seen as a boost to the team’s defensive options ahead of the new campaign.
A player with vast international experience, Awaziem has had stints across Europe and beyond, featuring for clubs in Spain, Turkey, Croatia, and the United States. His wide-ranging experience and familiarity with French football make him a valuable addition to the squad.
Nantes are banking on his defensive solidity and leadership qualities to help steady the ship as they aim for a stronger showing in Ligue 1 this season.
