Bandit invasions of schools cause panic as parents rush to evacuate pupils in Nyanya Abuja suburbs

|By  Belema Tamunonemi and Adejumo Adekunle – The bandit invasions of schools triggered widespread panic on Thursday across Nyanya suburbs in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, after rumours of armed attackers spreading fear among parents and pupils.

The bandit invasions of schools were allegedly linked to Phase 1 Primary School in Gbagalape, a claim that quickly went viral on social media. Consequently, parents abandoned workplaces and rushed to schools to evacuate their children in fear of possible abductions.

As tension spread, schools in Mararaba, Koroduma, and Ado communities in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State also shut down movement. The bandit invasions of schools report created confusion, forcing school authorities to tighten security and restrict access.

Parents reacted swiftly. Many received phone alerts and hurried to school premises, demanding immediate release of pupils. Meanwhile, transport operators capitalised on the situation, charging higher fares as anxious families scrambled to leave.

However, on-ground checks revealed a calmer reality in several schools. Administrators confirmed they had received alerts but insisted there was no direct attack.

At Newphase Academy, management said the school remained secure. Pupils were, however, released earlier than usual at 2 pm instead of 3 pm, following parental pressure.

In a swift response, the FCT Police Command dismissed the bandit invasions of schools claims, describing them as a false alarm that sparked unnecessary panic among residents.

Authorities urged the public to verify information before spreading it, warning that misinformation could disrupt learning and public order.
