Armed bandits late Tuesday night invaded Tarah community in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, kidnapping nine residents and shooting one person in the arm.
The incident adds to the surging wave of attacks sweeping northern Nigeria, where communities repeatedly endure abductions—often gaining freedom one day only to face fresh violence the next.
Local sources said the community’s youths mobilized swiftly to confront the attackers, a response that likely averted a larger tragedy. The assault came just days after members of Tarah’s vigilante group were redeployed to Katsira, a move that left the community vulnerable at a crucial moment.
Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Bakastine, warned on Wednesday via his X handle that the growing frequency of such attacks highlights the urgent need for coordinated security action to protect rural settlements.
The latest raid has rekindled fears of mass abductions and killings across northern states, where residents continue to grapple with insecurity despite ongoing military and policing operations.
