The Benue State Government has intensified efforts to evacuate its students stranded in Jos following ongoing unrest in the area, deploying additional buses to ensure their safe return.
The development was disclosed by the Manager of Benue Links Nigeria Limited, Comrade Alexander Fanafa, who said the action was in line with directives from Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Fanafa explained that the governor has prioritised the safety and welfare of Benue indigenes studying outside the state, prompting the immediate evacuation plan.
He noted that the exercise is being carried out in phases, with over 30 buses already deployed on Thursday, while additional vehicles have been dispatched to facilitate a smooth and secure relocation of the affected students.
Some of the evacuated students expressed relief and gratitude, describing the intervention as timely and reassuring amid the uncertainty created by the unrest.
Fanafa added that government officials are closely monitoring the operation to ensure that all stranded students are safely returned to Benue State.
