Babatunji Wusu –

Olayide Adelami, a former deputy clerk of the National Assembly, has been nominated by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to serve as the deputy governor.

Adelami, an Owo native and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, left the National Assembly in April 2018 after serving as the deputy clerk.

Alongside the late Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor in office at the time, he fought for the APC primary ticket in 2020.

Adelami’s nomination was verified by Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor’s chief press secretary, in an interview with The Gazette on Wednesday afternoon.

He declared that the House of Assembly will declare Adelami’s nomination this evening.

“His (Adelami) nomination will be announced by the House of Assembly later today,” he said.

A few hours after Governor Aiyedatiwa dismissed all of former Governor Akeredolu’s aides and dissolved the State Executive Council, Adelami has been nominated.

After Aiyedatiwa emerged as the governor, there was agitation for him to name a deputy governor, which led to Adelami’s nomination.

More to come..
